In October 2003, a new maternity care center opened at SJH Elmer Hospital. The Women and Newborns’ Center includes five Labor/Delivery/ Recovery/Post-partum (LDRP) rooms. This marks the first time in more than 25 years that maternity services have been available in Elmer.
In August 2004, the SJH Regional Medical Center opened in Vineland. This medical campus offers private, home-like labor and delivery suites with the latest in maternity services.
Expanding Services
SJH two new Women and Newborns’ Centers feature the services SJH hospitals are already known for, including:
- Access to some of the region’s top physicians, midwives and nurses, all trained and certified in maternal and newborn care.
- New, state-of-the-art medical equipment purchased with mothers and babies in mind.
- Comfortable birthing rooms, some including whirlpool baths, and all with a home-like atmosphere.
- Maternity rooms that encourage “rooming in”, where mothers and babies stay in the same hospital room, and respite nurseries for times when mothers need a break.
- A special care nursery with 24-hour physician coverage is available at the new Regional Medical Center.
- A state-of-the-art security system that ensures no one enters or leaves the unit without the staff knowing who they are and why they are there.
The home-like labor and delivery suites at the South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center have been designed with an emphasis on comfort and safety for both mother and baby.
