What is the South Jersey Healthcare Hospice Inpatient Center?
For most patients, hospice care is provided wherever the patient calls home. However, there are times when staying at home is not the preferred option for a patient facing a lifelimiting illness and a brief visit to an inpatient center is needed.
Sometimes a patient needs more care than can be managed in the home or has intense symptom management needs that a family caregiver cannot provide. Some patients lose their support systems due to illnesses or accidents, or friends and family simply need a temporary respite from care giving. Some patients and families need a brief transitional period to prepare for their loved ones’ home coming when they have been in the hospital.
To help you cope with any of these instances, South Jersey Healthcare HospiceCare offers its Hospice Inpatient Center. The center is located at the SJH Bridgeton Health Center (formerly known as SJH Bridgeton Hospital) and offers family members the comfort of knowing that their loved one will receive the level of hospice care they need in the most appropriate setting.
The beautifully decorated center includes:
- kitchen/dining area
- library meditation room
- family room with a child play area
- family laundry room 10 private patient rooms
- In-room and separate family sleeping areas allow family members to spend the night

Hospice—A Special Kind of Caring
Built on a foundation of dignity, support and comfort, SJH HospiceCare is committed to helping people with life-limiting illnesses, and their families, maintain the best possible quality of life.
Since 1981, HospiceCare has provided compassionate care and support to thousands of local residents and their families. During this time, we have also earned the trust and respect of the communities we serve by holding fast to our mission: To provide excellent, cost effective, compassionate care to persons with life-limiting illnesses and their caregivers, offering them the opportunity to achieve their highest quality of life.
With an emphasis on palliative care (comfort care) rather than curative treatment, and quality rather than quantity of life, professional medical care is provided. The SJH HospiceCare team has expertise in symptom relief and aggressive pain management techniques.
By including both the patient and family in the care plan, the entire HospiceCare team is able to give medical, emotional, spiritual and practical support based on the patient’s wishes and family’s needs. Care is provided at the patient’s home, nursing home, or any other place of residence.
SJH HospiceCare is a program of SJH Community Services and a service of South Jersey Healthcare, a non-profit charitable organization. HospiceCare is supported by insurance reimbursement, corporations, grants, fund raising activities and taxdeductible donations from caring individuals. It provides services for patients and families/caregivers in Cumberland, Salem and portions of Atlantic and Gloucester counties, regardless of their financial circumstances.
