Medical Oncology (Chemotherapy)
The Medical Oncology/Outpatient Department staff delivers quality care to patients in a caring and friendly atmosphere. Our expert oncology nurses understand both the physical and emotional aspects of cancer treatment, as well as the spiritual needs of people with longstanding chronic conditions. Our nurses provide ongoing patient education and are available for follow-up questions or concerns.

The following treatments are performed in the Medical Outpatient Department at the Regional Medical Center:

  • Therapeutic phlebotomy
  • Coordination of services between Radiation Oncology and Medical Oncology to make your cancer treatment seamless.
  • Administration of IV antibiotics, IV fluids for hydration, IV Iron, steroids and anti nausia medication
  • Administration of blood/blood products including: FF plasma, platelets, IVIG and packed red blood cells
  • Administration of chemotherapy
  • Personalized education for patients, family members, caregivers and significant others
  • Vaccine injections including flu, rabies, anergy panel and rhogam
  • Supportive cancer therapies, including subcutaneous injections of growth factors
  • Remicade infusions and Amifostine injections
  • Close monitoring of blood tests, vital signs and response to treatments; one to one nursing care
  • Care and maintenance of surgically implanted central venous catheters and devices, including lab draws from ports
  • Chemotherapy/BCG installation in the bladder
  • Ambulatory infusion pump set-up, maintenance and discontinuation
  • Cortisol stimulation testing and other timed labs
