STEPS is a community based childhood obesity program.
Childhood obesity is a serious public health issue in our service area and one of the factors that contributes to Cumberland County’s ranking lowest of all 21 counties in the state’s county health rankings.
STEPS for Kids, is a family-focused health improvement program for children with a BMI over the 85th percentile for their age. This
ten-week program is held three times a year in Bridgeton and Vineland. Admission to the program is through referral from a physician or school nurse and addresses healthier diet choices, physical activity, and counseling to support behavior change. The program is led by a registered dietitian, licensed social worker and exercise specialist who work with both the child and their parents. Contact Garden AHEC for information on registration and when the next session starts at 856-575-4865. Visit the STEPS for Kids webpage at www.sjhsteps.com
